Naoshima

To tell the truth, I didn’t know the existence of the major island called ‘Naoshima’ despite I have a Japanese nationality.
Naoshima is located between Kagawa and Okayama prefecture on Setonai sea. Although this is a little difficult location for foreign visitors, the numbers of visiting are swelling.
Why is that? We can consider following several reasons.

The main purpose for visiting there is to see and appreciate contemporary arts. Japanese publishing company Benesse carries out many projects concerning about it and creates their own original place. They have the contemporary combined museum including small hotel and restaurants and spa and library and it’s called ‘Benesse house.’ So visitors can stay there and take their time and appreciate those arts.

The article fascinates me is about 007 memorial house. That house was inspired by Naoshima-based 007 novel of the same name. I have no idea why the author, Raymond Benson, made a story based on Naoshima though. So fanatic 007 fans must be eager to go there!

CHICHU ART MUSEUM opened in 2004 collects many works including Claude Monet, Walter de Maria and James Turrell. We can appreciate supreme woks by famous artists.

Eventually this article made me wanna visit there someday. But since there are also many attractive and well-organized museums in Tokyo, I’ll go there first and form insight toward arts.
